RELI PROMOTES WEALTH CREATION & POVERTY ALLEVIATION THROUGH ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILL ACQUISITION BOOT CAMP
Reli Communications Limited in conjunction with SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Oke Afa, Ejigbo Lagos held an Entrepreneurship Skill Acquisition Boot Camp where over 500 students, youths and micro business practitioners were trained on various vocational skills and mentored on setting up and managing businesses which will enable them lay a solid foundation for wealth creation, financial empowerment, poverty alleviation and self-employment. The programme was held from August 8, – October 22, 2022 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church Old Site in Jakande Estate, Oke Afa, Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The high level of poverty in Nigeria is constituted by many youths unemployment. Many youths in Nigeria are unemployed because they do not have practical skills and experience to back their educational qualifications. Many youths do not have vocational skills because the foundation was not laid earlier in their schools and families. This is because entrepreneurial programmes were not embedded in their school curricula. Most of the youths were not equipped with career path thereby leaving them with little or no choice of career path and development.
There is therefore need to train the youths on entrepreneurial skills, wealth creation, career development beginning with students and graduates from the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area and its environs.
Introducing entrepreneurial skills will provide opportunities for youths either at the senior secondary school level or in post university level to lay a career path for themselves, thus promoting entrepreneurship and innovation thereby reducing unemployment and poverty.
The training will also assist micro scale practitioners to learn how to manage and improve their businesses and qualify for what it takes to get funds and loans from financial institutions without hassles.
OBJECTIVES
- To train and develop active youths on various entrepreneurial skills for job and wealth creation
- To promote economic development, expand employment size and reduce poverty level.
- To provide a guide for young students and school leavers who are unsure of which career path to choose.
- To equip students and youths with practical experience and technical skills in specific fields.
- To assist in promoting entrepreneurship, poverty eradication and youth empowerment.
- To assist in reducing crime and idleness among the youths.
AREAS OF TRAINING
The participants were trained in the areas of:
- Business management and career mentorship
- Food processing; Pastries and Confectioneries
- Production of Soaps, Creams, Balms, Insecticides etc.
- Music, Public Speaking, Drama and Graphics
- Information Technology; Web Portal Design, and Online Marketing
- Beauty Care, Hair Dressing, Facial Make up, Pedicure, Manicure etc.
- Crafts; Bead Making, Leather Works etc.
The participants were drawn from the church community, the schools within the council area and youth groups within the ecosystem. A number 15 experts were contacted to facilitate various skills. Some professionals were also invited to give talks in the areas of wealth creation, career development and business management. Some of the participants who could not afford the participation fee were sponsored by distinguished individuals. The equipment and tools for the training were also provided by well-meaning individuals as their contribution towards wealth creation, unemployment and poverty eradication.
The Project Coordinator who also is the Chief Executive Officer of Reli Communications Limited, Mr. Emma Anyagwa stated that the company designed the programme as its contribution towards wealth creation through entrepreneurship skills acquisition as well as promoting youth empowerment and gainful employment. He called on well-meaning Nigerians, organizations, government and financial institutions to support the programme which is held annually. He stated that the aim is to ensure that over 10 million Nigerian students and youths are trained on various skills all over the country in the next five years.
